The base game is an extended trial when you compare to the final product you can adquire by buying all story related content (living world, expansions). I would agree with you if the expansions were stand alones, they aren't. And they've embraced the "create the problem, sell the solution" method of cash shop (tiny inventory, limited character slots, etc).īut the game is still F2P. They lock content patches (living world seasons) behind gems, which for new players is essentially a pay wall. Now, I won't defend their business model in any way. While I agree it's frustrating to see people zipping around on mounts when you can't get one yourself, that does not mean that GW2 is not F2P. Originally posted by Caz:GW2 is actually is F2P, though. So again, thanks but no thanks mate, nothing personal. I know a lot people which have the same opinion and know more people which already played WAY longer than me but stoped for the better as well. Im sorry to say that they had the chance already (meaning the devs) but they ruined it. Im sure somewhere i even have my 2 old characters with lots and lots of hours put into but i cant bring myself into it again. GW2 sure was something i enjoyed but that was "back in the day". i found myself playing other games with way more fun. If you like you can add me to your FL and I help you getting back into the game.
There are so many changes it would be better to read patch notes :) They even renewed the complete game engine to PBR rendering + all maps were adopted to use expansions mounts eg. Well, it reads like you didn't play GW2 for years then?! Is this right? I mean, if you didn't play since then, I invite you to play it again and notice how heavily the game changed the last years. They changed it around the time the first dlc got online and before that, stuff was WAY better of the belt. This is the most honest way to give new players the change to find out if they like GW2 like MMO games.Īlso to add the fact that GW2 was NOT f2p from the very beginning but p2p. It is F2P as MMOs already have rough time to find new players. This maybe the best F2P MMO title Steam has then. and facing it it gives a lot other MMOs on steam which are better, f2p or not - also does GW2 has some p2w elements and huge major limitations which other mmos doesnt have (subclasses, gliders, mounts, Living world, etc.).Īlso to add the fact that GW2 was NOT f2p from the very beginning but p2p. I dont wanna say GW2 is "maybe" a good game, i gave it up shortlay after the first dlc released but its for sure not as great as you say, NOT nowadays. It gives way better and other games which do better like the finally international release of PSO2 for one good sample - next to this its just way more fun. you comment on every topic on steam here like GW2 is the holy grail of MMOs. This is the most honest way to give new players the change to find out if they like GW2 like MMO games. I think gamers are smart enough to know how it works nowadays. I support GW2 moving to steam, although I'm rather disappointed they aren't allowing old players to migrate to steam. These would aid you quite a lot when leveling a new character, although leveling is still quite doable without them.įair warning if you are a PvP enthusiast, to fully engage on PvP and WvW you would need the expansions, some of the best class combos are locked behind them and mounts are just mandatory for WvW. There are core features locked behind the expasions like gliders, mounts and advanced classes. I highly encourage everyone to purchase Path of Fire, as it also nets you the Heart of Thorns and it's just years of content packed into a nice package.
It could be considered a full game in 2012 considering the standards back then, but you are still getting a nice amount of content for free on steam to try it out. Most MMOs use F2P as a marketing tool, but I'm here to clarify: GW2 base game is an extended trial, not a F2P game.
